Lets face it, no one wants wrinkles. But they are a natural part of life and it is not the end of the world if we get them. They are nothing to be ashamed of and often wrinkles can be a good thing. Such as smile wrinkles (wrinkles that were caused from smile lines). However, if we want to delay the onset of wrinkles, you may want to try one or all of the following tips.
Firstly, What Causes Wrinkles?
Ok, to help prevent wrinkles, it is important to better understand how wrinkles are formed. Our skin contains 2 different layers. The outer layer which is called epidermis and the inner layer which is called the dermis. The layer which contains is the dermis and as we get older, our body produces less collagen. This results in skin damage such as stretch marks, wrinkles and saggy skin.
Some factors that contribute to premature skin aging are: smoking, excessive sun, poor food choices, and dehydration.
Drink Plenty Of Water
As I mentioned a moment ago, dehydration can be a contributing to premature wrinkles. It is so important to drink enough water, not just for your skin, but for your health. Being dehydrated can lead to junk food cravings which affects your health which also affects your skin. Plus being dehydrated drys out our skin and leaves it more susceptible to skin damage such as wrinkles.
Make sure to moisturize on a daily basis. Especially if you live in a dry climate. Moisturize after your shower as your skin will dry out, especially if you have a really hot shower. Try and avoid long hot baths or really hot showers and opt for a cooler one instead. This will help keep your skin better hydrated.
Our bodies contain free radicals and these can cause damage to our skin. These free radicals come from toxins in our food or pollution for example. In order to prevent skin damage (and wrinkles), our bodies need antioxidants. Antioxidants are found in our food and here are some great foods to start adding into your diet today. Spinach, blueberries, walnuts, kale, cranberries, kiwis, beans, and as many veggies as you can eat.
Eat More Good Fats
Good fats contain natural fatty acids that our skin needs to look its best and can help prevent wrinkles. Try and add good fats into your daily diet. Fats such as avocado, coconut oil, and nuts.
Get A Good Night Rest
Ever heard of the saying, it is important to get your beauty sleep? Well this saying is more true than you may have thought. While we are asleep, our body produces human growth hormone (HGH). HGH helps our body regenerate as well as skin regeneration. So you see, if you are not getting enough sleep each night, than your body may not have enough time to rejuvenate your skin each night. This leads to older looking skin and wrinkles. So make sure you’re getting at least 8 hours of consistent sleep each night. And try to go to bed and wake similar times each day. This will help your body to get into a routine.
Over to you. Have you tried any of these tips on yourself? How did you go? Or do you have any other tips that we have missed? We would love to hear from you in the comments below.
